Cheesy Garlic Naan
Description
Naan, the crown jewel of Indian bread, emerges from the tandoor with an irresistible blend of softness and crispiness. This oven-baked flatbread, leavened to perfection, bears the marks of its fiery encounter with the traditional clay walls.
Each tear of its delicate texture releases an aroma of yeast and char, offering a canvas for myriad flavours—plain, garlic-infused, or brushed with butter.
Whether accompanying rich curries or acting as a vessel for dips, Naan transcends its humble origins, embodying the heart of Indian culinary craftsmanship.

Cheesy Garlic Filling
Prepare the Naan Dough
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture, yogurt, and oil. Mix well to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until it doubles in size.
Make Cheesy Garlic Naan
- In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, and chopped cilantro.
- In a bowl, mix shredded mozzarella cheese, minced garlic, and chopped cilantro.
- Divide the risen dough into golf ball-sized portions.
- Take one portion, flatten it, and place a small amount of the cheesy garlic filling in the center.
- Seal the edges and roll it back into a ball. Flatten the ball into an oval or round shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Heat a tawa (griddle) on medium-high heat.
- Place the rolled naan on the hot tawa. Cook one side until you see bubbles forming.
- Flip the naan and cook the other side. While the second side is cooking, press the edges gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
- Once both sides have golden brown spots, remove the naan from the tawa.
- Brush the cooked naan with the garlic butter topping.
- Serve the Cheesy Garlic Naan hot, allowing the cheese to ooze out when torn.
- Enjoy this delicious Cheesy Garlic Naan with the delightful surprise of melted cheese inside!
