Instructions
- Rinse the masoor dal thoroughly and soak in water for 30 minutes.
- Add the masoor dal, tomatoes, green chilli, kasuri methi, and salt to a pot with 3 cups of water and bring to a simmer. Simmer covered for 25-30 minutes. Until the dal is soft.
- Heat the ghee/oil in a pan at a med-high heat. Add the onion, asafoetida, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, and Kashmiri red chilli. Saute for 2-minutes.
- Pour the hot tadka over top of the dal and gently stir to combine.
- Garnish the masoor dal curry with fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with steamed rice or Indian bread (chapatti or naan). Optionally, serve with lemon wedges for a burst of citrus flavour.
