  • 450g ground beef
  • 225g ground pork
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons garlic (crushed)
  • 1 carrot (finely grated)
  • 1 celery stalk (finely chopped)
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 4-6 tablespoons of olive oil for cooking
  • Bechamel Sauce

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • Salt and a pinch of nutmeg to taste
  • Ingredients

  • Lasagna noodles, cooked according to package instructions
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
  • Instructions
    1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, grated carrot, and chopped celery. Sauté until the vegetables are softened.
    2. Add ground beef and pork. Cook until browned, breaking the meat apart with a spoon.
    3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, red wine (if using), tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for at least 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally.
    4. In a separate saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
    5. Gradually whisk in the milk to avoid lumps. Continue cooking and whisking until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and a pinch of nutmeg. Remove from heat.
    6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
    7. In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of Bolognese sauce. Place a layer of cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce.
    8. Spoon Bolognese sauce over the noodles, followed by a layer of béchamel sauce and a sprinkle of both mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
    9. Repeat the layering process until you've used all the ingredients, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.
    10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
    11. Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.
    12. Enjoy this classic and hearty Traditional Italian Lasagna!
