Shaking Beef (Bo Luc Lac)

Description

This delicious dish from Vietnam really brings your taste buds to life. A lovely mixture of garlic saltiness and sweetness is enhanced with a drizzle of fresh lime juice. This classic Vietnamese dish is sure to become one of your favourites A great summer time dish to enjoy with friends and family!

Marinade

  • 500 grams Beef (sirloin or beef eye fillet)
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic
  • 1/2 tsp Salt (to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar
  • Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 Onion
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic
  • 1 tbsp Fish Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Honey or Brown Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Rice Wine Vinegar (or white vinegar)
  • Rice, Lettuce (or water cress), Cucumber, Lime Juice, and Tomatoes (to serve)
  • Instructions
    1. Slice the beef into cubes and combine with the marinade ingredients. Allow to sit for 20-30 minutes.
    2. In another bowl mix the Fish Sauce, Soy Sauce, Honey(or sugar), and Vinegar and set aside.
    3. Heat the oil in a wok or large pan to a high temperature, sear the beef on all sides for 1-2 minutes (do not over cook). Remove the seared beef from pan and add to the sauce mixture you made in step 2.
    4. Next add the Onion and Garlic to the pan and fry on a high heat for 30-60 seconds
    5. Add the beef mixture back to the pan making sure to pour in all the sauce and cook at a high heat for 1-2 minutes (do not over cook).
    6. Serve on a bed of rice with fresh cucumber slices, tomatoes and lettuce (or water cress). Squeeze over a little fresh lime juice and enjoy.
